The Story Of Rahab

Joshua wanted a battle plan. As do we all when we face trouble. We want to gather intelligence, Study our opponent. But the spies Joshua sent were part of God’s plan in the story of Rahab.

More Than Just A Battle

What does it say he does in Verses 1?

Who else found out that the strange men were Israelites and where they were staying? Verse 2

Reputation Proceeds’ Them

I would have been very afraid if soldiers came to my door to look for something I was hiding. I imagine the nights events made Rahab frazzled. But she kept her cool when the King’s soldiers asked about the men.

What did Rahab tell them?

In verses 8-11, Rahab explains how they have heard what the Lord has done for their people. What does she say about how her, and all her people feel about the stories?

Promise Of Payment

When I read the next section, I can’t help but feel that Rahab’s profession has taught her to always have a plan. Always be able to get payment in some form or another for her service. This time is no exception.

What does she demand from the spies before she lets them leave? Verse 12

The two men explain the terms of what they can offer her, which are pretty strict guidelines.

This story ends with Rahab saving the spies a second time by telling them a different path to take so they don’t run into the guards looking for them. This allows the men to escape safely back to Joshua to report what they saw. She was obviously very wise from her experiences. Here are some ideas for going deeper about gaining wisdom!

A Promise Kept

Joshua chapter 6 tells the amazing story of the fall of Jericho, and the interesting tactic used by the Israelites as their battle plan. Again, God performs a miracle and it only increases the story that goes before them as to the power of God that is with them.

Joshua 6:17 What does Joshua command?

Read verses 22-23 What do the spies do?

Rahab’s small act of faith plays a huge part in the bigger story unfolding.

In the beginning, the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

And he will answer, “I tell you the truth when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me”. “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life” Matthew 25:46
