The story of Rahab unfolds in a short section of Joshua. Although Rahab the prostitute did not know God, the Lord pursued her, saved her, and her life was part of His plan. I think many of us as women, can relate in some way to her tale.
Before we begin this study, I thought it important to backtrack a little bit and set the scene for what takes place with our heroine.
Prior To Our Story
When the Israelites left Egypt, God was with them and protected them. Actually, he rescued them from their bondage and slavery in Egypt! During their travels to the land that was promised to them, God performed countless amazing miracles. Word spread of these awe-filled moments and people began to fear the Israelites and their God!
The City Of Jericho
When their path led them to Jericho, they overlooked the city and decided to send 2 spies into the city to gather information. As God often orchestrates our paths, and on His devein timing, they ended up at the home of Rahab the prostitute.
Her home was in a strategic location in the wall of the city. From there the spies could see the comings and goings of people and the city gates themselves. Plus, it would not have been odd for this woman to take the strange men into her home with her profession.
God Pursues Rahab
As our study unfolds, you’ll see that God prepared her heart and pursued her even though her profession was shameful. Although this was her first encounter with God, she acted on the opportunity to save herself and her family and was adopted into God’s Ultimate Plan!
As the scriptures say, “No one is righteous-not even one. Romans 3:10
He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. God washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace, he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. Titus 3:5-7
